Children in Reindeer Husbandry 2013 – Art Exhibition Announced for World Reindeer Herders Congress

Childrens Exhibition 2009A feature of every World Reindeer Herders Congress held since the first global meeting of reindeer herders in Tromso, Norway in 1991 has been the holding of an Art exhibition featuring artistic work by children from reindeer herding families which is put on display throughout the Congress and whose work is then archived in the Association’s offices. Hundreds of entries are received from all over the world of reindeer husbandry and the images give a unique insight into the world of reindeer husbandry in the different regions as seen through the eyes of  children.

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF CHILDREN DRAWINGS “CHILDREN IN REINDEER HUSBANDRY – 2013” in connection with the 5h World Reindeer Herders’ Congress in Aoluguya, Genhe, Inner Mongolia in China 24th – 29th of July, 2013.

Children in reindeer husbandry in the different regions all over the circumpolar area is hereby invited to send their own drawings to the competition “Children in Reindeer Husbandry – 2013”, which is organized in connection with the 5th World Reindeer Herders’ Congress in Aoluguya, Genhe, Inner Mongolia in China in July 24th -29th of July, 2013.

All drawings received before the deadline, will participate in a competition where 10 drawings will be rewarded by drawing lots. The drawings will also be displayed in an exhibition called “Children in Reindeer Husbandry – 2013” during the 5th World Reindeer Herders’ Congress. Attached is more detailed information about the competition, including rules for participation, requirements for the artistic work, deadline for sending the drawings and to which address to send.

We ask the receivers of this letter kindly to help us to disseminate this invitation to potential participants in their region and communities.

INFORMATION AND RULES FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION OF CHILDREN DRAWINGS ‘CHILDREN IN REINDEER HUSBANDRY – 2013’

Responsible organizer
Association of World Reindeer Herders (WRH) by the Association’s secretariat in Kautokeino, Norway is responsible for the organization of the competition. The competition is arranged in connection with the 5th World Reindeer Herders’ Congress which takes place in Aoluguya, Genhe, Inner Mongolia in China in the period of 24th -29th, 2013.

Who can participate?
Children under the age of 16 years and connected to reindeer husbandry in different regions in the circumpolar area can participate in the competition with their own drawings.

Theme for the competition
The theme of the competition is ‘Children in Reindeer Husbandry’. We want drawings showing reindeer husbandry in the different region, seen through children’s eyes. It is up to the participant itself to decide what to draw as long it is connected to reindeer husbandry.

What is required?
The drawings can be all from drawings made of pencil to watercolor paintings, wood- or linocut, oil paintings etc. The minimum size of the drawings should be at least A4 (21x30cm) format and maximum 4 times A4 size. The drawings must not be framed. The name, age, place, region and country of the artist must be written down on the left or right side of the drawing. (For example; Ivan V. Galkin, 4 years, Lovozero, Murmansk Oblast, Russia) Name of school, kindergarten or reindeer herding unit/brigade can be written on the drawing if desirable. A title might also be written on the drawing but it is not required and does not give any advantage in the competition.

Judgment and award
A jury will be named to judge and select at random ten prizewinning pictures. All participants who get their drawing(s) accepted in the competition will receive a diploma confirming participation in the competition ’Children of Reindeer Husbandry – 2013’.

Rights, exhibition and publication/publishing
All received drawings are regarded as WRH’s property and are stored by the central Association. All received drawings are displayed in a separate exhibition called ‘Children in Reindeer Husbandry – 2013 at the 5th World Reindeer Herders’ Congress in Aoluguya, Genhe, Inner Mongolia in China during the period of July 24th – 29th, 2013. WRH reserves the right to exhibit in the future the drawings in WRH’s office and at arrangements under the auspices of WRH. The Association reserves the right to choose drawings to a book called ‘Children in Reindeer Husbandry – 2013’ which will be printed and published after the Congress. Possible income from sale of the book will be used in WRH’s work and activities for children and youth in reindeer husbandry.

Deadline for sending in the drawings etc.
Drawings for participating in the competition must be addressed and sent in to WRH, P.O.Box 109, N-9521 Kautokeino, Norway. Only original drawings will be accepted. It is not acceptable to send in copy of drawings. Full name and address including information required, see point 4 above, is required to get a drawing accepted in the competition. Drawing(s) sent by ordinary mail need to be at WRH no later than July 10th , 2013. Only drawing(s) received within this deadline is accepted participation in the competition. Delegates to the Congress from different regions can bring with them the drawings from their region. All drawings brought to the Congress by the delegates are guaranteed to participate in the competition.
