WRH takes part at the Council meeting of UArctic in Buryatia, Russia
June 14-18, the 18th Council Meeting of University of Arctic is held at the Buryat State University in the city of Ulan-Ude, the capital of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia. More than 70 delegates from 15 countries arrived to Buryatia. Within the Council Meeting the Buryat State University will host the joint science and education conference “Arctic Dialog in the Global World”. The conference brings together interested scientists, politicians, academics, business people, PhD and postgraduate students from all over the world.
The Chair of the Board of the Association of World Reindeer Herders, president of the Uarctic EALAT Institute, and executive director of the Northern Forum Mikhail Pogodaev took part at the opening of the Council Meeting. In his speech Mikhail Pogodaev emphasized the importance of international scientific cooperation for the future of the Arctic people. At the same time it is important to pay particular attention to development of all types of educational institutions at the remotest areas of the North. Due to support of the Association of the World Reindeer Herders and Uarctic EALAT Institute of the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry, the Arctic College of the People of the North in Sakha Republic (Yakutia) applied to join the University of Arctic. The Council of Uarctic approved the application. Here in Ula-Ude the director of the Arctic College of the People of the North Elena Antipina made a presentation about the college.
On 18th of June the Association of World Reindeer Herders and Uarctic EALAT Institute will run a separate session about preservation and development of taiga reindeer husbandry, within the international science conference “Arctic Dialog in the Global World”. Reindeer herders from Republic of Buryatia, Irkutsk oblast, Republic of Tuva and Mongolia are planning to participate in this session.
During his stay in Buryatia, Mikhail Pogodaev will visit reindeer herders in Okinsky district of the Republic of Burytia.
