Nomadic Herders Proposal to the Global Environment Facility

January 10, 2012 • Philip BurgessBlog, Nomadic Herders, Projects

An important part of the Nomadic Herders initiative is the development of a Global Environment Facility (GEF) proposal with a geographical scope including both the Mongolian and Russian taiga. The proposal, building on the recent work in Mongolia and past experience in Russia, is to study in more depth the challenges and opportunities for sustainable land management and reindeer husbandry in northern Mongolia and southern Russia, two regions and pastoralist systems that share common challenges. The proposal was submitted at the end of 2011 with endorsement letters from Mongolian and Russian authorities. The proposal will be considered in 2012.
