Seminar on spring duck hunting started in Kautokeino

The seminar brought together Sami people from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia, reindeer herders from Russia: nenets people from Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Nenets Autonomous Okrug; Even and Evenki people from the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia); students, representatives from science, UNESCO, administration and others. The aim of the seminar is to highlight the traditional knowledge the Sami people and other indigenous peoples on birds, hunting and the use of birds as food and as other resources, and to show the extensiveness of spring duck hunting in the Arctic. Participants are going to talk about duck hunting in the perspective of indigenous peoples, traditional knowledge, scientific knowledge, as well as administrative perspective.
