The Board of the Association of World Reindeer Herders decided to postpone the 7th World Reindeer Herders’ Congress based on the recommendations of the authorities of Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous okrug, and the situation with the SARS-CoV2 pandemic. The 7th Congress, which is going to be held in Khanty-Mansiysk in Russia, is postponed until September/October 2021, or until such time as the pandemic situation allows. As a foundation for this decision, Association of World Reindeer Herders will not take any risks with the health of reindeer herders or others.

The World Reindeer Herders’ Congress is a unique cultural and professional event that brings together representatives of reindeer herding peoples from around the circumpolar region. The Congress is organised by the Association of World Reindeer Herders (WRH) in cooperation with the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry. International cooperation in reindeer husbandry in modern times dates back to 1993 with the Reindeer Peoples’ Festival in Tromsø, Norway. Previous congresses have been held in Nadym (Russia), Inari (Finland), Yakutsk (Russia), Kautokeino (Norway), Aoluguya (China) and most recently (2017) in Jokkmokk (Sweden).
