International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry brought the NOMAD Indigenous kitchen to the market in Burfjord on June 12, 2025 in connection with the visit of the Norwegian Royal Couple. Photo: ICR Director, Anders Oskal and mayor of Kvænangen, Kai-Petter Johansen, in front of the lavvo in Burfjord.
The ICR’s team has served delicious traditional salmon soup for the community throughout the market’s opening hours. This complimentary soup was prepared by NOMAD Indigenous FoodLab’s master chef Alfred Larsen, in effort to provide comfort on a cold yet sunlit day and welcome Burfjord community to the Lavvu with warm fire.
Burfjord is a fishing village in Kvænangen Municipality of Norway, known for its scenic beauty, rich cultural heritage, and unique location within the Kvænangen fjord region. Kvænangen was the only municipality in Troms the royal couple have not visited officially before.
