Enets live in the tundra and forest tundra of the lower Yenisey valley and Dudinka regions of the Taymyrskiy Autonomous Okrug and number no more than 350. They live alongside Nenets and Dolgans.
Traditionally a hunting culture (mainly for wild reindeer), collectivisation sedentarised them. Most are engaged in reindeer husbandry which they adopted from Nenets and Nganasan with whom they work. The production of transport animals is of great importance in the region.
